Delivering to students

A printed exam

A printed exam is a version of the exam that you download as a PDF and hand out in class. This page shows how to design its pages, make versions and a teacher's copy, and download the file.

Open the print screen

  1. Open the exam in the exam studio.
  2. In the top bar, click Print.
The exam's view buttons in the studio's top bar, with the Print button highlighted.
In the exam studio's top bar, Print opens the print screen.

You can also click Deliver to the class, in the exam editor or on the item page, and choose Printed.

The screen at a glance

On one side you see the exam's pages. Above them, choose Screen, or Print to see the pages as they come out in the PDF. On the other side is a panel: at the top, Printed exam and the download button, and under it four tabs: Design, Customize, Settings and Publish. Every change is saved right away.

What the pages show

  • On the Design tab, choose a design for the pages. In use: shows the chosen design.
  • On the Customize tab, turn on what the pages show: a logo, the date, the student's name, a header text, a signature, a footer text and page numbers. Next to an element that can repeat, check On every page.
  • The Lines for the answers switch adds writing lines under the open questions. Lines per answer sets how many. When it's empty, the number is set automatically.

On the Customize tab, turn on what the pages show, and choose whether it repeats on every page.

Once you change a design, you can keep it as a design of your own for your next printed exams. There's more in Print and digital designs.

Versions and the teacher's copy

  • Teacher's copy (with the answers): the switch above the pages shows them with the answers, and the download follows it. Turn it off before you download the students' copy.
  • Another version: in the Delivery list, choose New delivery. Each version has its own design and settings, and all of them stay in the list.
  • Shuffle the questions, on the Settings tab: the questions come in a different order in each copy.
The toolbar above the exam's pages: the Delivery list, the choice between Screen and Print, and the teacher's copy switch.
Above the pages: pick a version in the Delivery list, and turn on the teacher's copy to see the answers.

Download the PDF

  1. At the top of the panel, click the download button.
  2. In the window that says The file is ready, you can check Send me a copy by email.
  3. Click Download, and print the file.

You can download the file again from My deliveries too.

Open with a link

Students can also open the exam's pages with a link:

  1. On the Publish tab, turn on Open with a link.
  2. Click Copy link, or send the link by Email, WhatsApp, Facebook or X.
The Send it to students part of the Publish tab: the Open with a link switch is on, and under it the exam's link field with the Copy link button and buttons to send it by Email, WhatsApp, Facebook and X.
Open with a link: with the switch on, you get the link to the exam's pages and ways to send it.

Who can open the link is set on the Settings tab, under Who can take it. With Only students I choose, you can write them a note and send them the link with Email the students.

Note: students you chose see a printed exam on your page only when the Show on your page switch, under Publish to a page, is on.
