Print and digital designs
A design sets how an exam looks. A print design sets the printed pages, and a digital design sets how students see the exam on a computer or a phone. You can pick a ready design, change it for one exam, and save new designs for next time.
What's in a design
| What it sets | Print design | Digital design |
|---|---|---|
| Elements | Logo, Date, Student name, Header text, Signature, Footer text, Page numbering | Logo, Header text, Show the opening text, Closing text |
| Look | Colors and fonts, in Look and feel (Advanced) | Colors and fonts, in Look and feel (Advanced) |
| Preview | Screen or Print | Computer or Phone |
Each element has a switch, and what it needs opens under it, such as Click to upload a new logo or the text itself. Most print elements can also be shown On every page.
Choosing a design for an exam
You choose the design when you give the exam to students. In the studio, go to the Print view (a printed exam) or the Computer view (a digital exam). In the panel at the side, on the Design tab, the designs are grouped by category, with My designs first. Click a card to choose it; In use: shows which design is chosen.

More about the other settings there: Giving an exam digitally and A printed exam.
Changes for one exam
On the Customize tab you change the design for this delivery of the exam only: turn elements on and off, write the texts, upload a logo, and change colors and fonts. Next to a changed value there's a button that brings back the design's value. For a printed exam, this tab also has Lines for the answers.
To use the changes in your next exams too, press Save as a new design and give the design a name. When the chosen design is one of My designs, you can also save the changes into it with Save the design's changes.

The default design
A new exam starts with the default design. Choose it in Preferences, on the Designs tab: Default print design is the print design, and Default exam design is the digital one. In each, pick a category and click the design, then press Save changes. More about preferences: Profile and preferences.
A new design in the studio
- In Preferences, on the Designs tab, choose the My print designs category (print) or My designs (digital), and press Make one in the studio.
- In the editor that opens, New print design or New digital design, pick an existing design under The design to start from.
- Change the Elements and the look. The preview updates with your changes.
- Press Save the design and write The design's name. The design is saved, and you go back to the preferences.

Note: In a school's account or a colleagues' group, Make one in the studio is there for the account's managers. In a school's account, the print design editor has a lock next to each element: a locked element stays in the account's exams as the design has it.
