Delivering to students

Giving an exam digitally

With a digital delivery, students take the exam online, on a computer or a phone. Here's how to set it up and send students the link.

Open the delivery screen

  1. In the exam editor, or on the exam's item page, click Deliver to the class.
  2. In the window that opens, choose Digital.
The window for giving the exam to students, asking how they will get it, with two options: Digital and Printed. Digital is highlighted.
In the delivery window, choose Digital so that students take the exam online.

If the exam already has deliveries, the window lists them with an Open button, and offers a New digital delivery. In the exam studio, the Computer and Phone views in the top bar open this screen too.

The screen at a glance

On one side is the exam as students will see it, with the Delivery list above it to switch between the exam's deliveries or start a New delivery. On the other side is a panel:

  • At the top, the status (Not open yet, Open to students or Closed) and the Open to students or Close button.
  • Four tabs: Design, Customize, Settings and Publish. Design and Customize are explained in Print and digital designs.
  • At the bottom, The item's default delivery: when it's on, the exam's link opens with this delivery's settings, wherever the exam is shared.

Every change is saved right away.

Who can take it

On the Settings tab, Who can take it has two options:

  • Anyone with the link. Choose what students fill in before they start: Full name, Email or Phone.
  • Only students I choose. A list of the classes and students from My classes appears. Check a whole class or single students, or search by name. Select all selects what the search found, and Clear clears the choice. The line under the list says how many are chosen. Attempts per student sets how many times each student can take it.
The Who can take it setting, set to Only students I choose. Under it, a line that says where the classes come from, a search box with Select all and Clear, a list of classes and students with check boxes, and a summary line of what is chosen.
Only students I choose: check classes and students, and the line under the list says how many are chosen.

Students you chose enter the exam with their personal code (see How students get in). No classes yet? The list will show a Make a class button (see Classes).

Send the link

  1. Click Open to students. Until the exam is open, there's no link to send.
  2. On the Publish tab, under Send it to students, click Copy link, or send it by Email, WhatsApp, Facebook or X.
  3. For your own website, set the width and height under Embed it in a website, and click Copy the code.

Under Publish to a page, the Show on your page switch shows the exam on your page. If anyone with the link can take it, everyone who visits the page sees it. Students you chose see it in their class there anyway while it's open, and with the switch on, also when it's closed. Under Categories, choose the sections of the page it appears in. Whoever manages the page can add a new category here.

The Publish to a page part: the Show on your page switch with a hint, a list of categories with check boxes, a field to add a new category with an Add button, and fields for the title and the description on the page.
Publish to a page: the switch that shows the exam on your page, and the categories students find it in.

Close it and see the results

Close stops students from taking the exam, and you can open it again at any time. Once the exam has been open, the Results button leads to the students' attempts (see An exam's results). All your deliveries are in My deliveries.
