Folders

A folder gathers documents, files, exams and other folders for one topic or one class, in the order you use them. You can give a folder to students, download it, or publish it on your page.

Creating a folder

The quick way is in My storage: click New, choose Folder, type a Folder name and a description (optional), and click Create folder. The folder is created inside the folder that's open at the time.

A folder created in the folder editor, for example inside another folder, is saved before anything goes in it:

  1. Type a name at the top of the page, in The folder's name (2 to 30 characters).
  2. Write a description of at least 10 characters in the settings at the side.
  3. Click Continue. The folder is saved, and you can add items to it.
The folder editor for a new folder: the folder's name field at the top, the buttons Download, Publish to your page, Save and Save and finish, and the card Name it, describe it, and save it, with a Continue button.
A new folder: give it a name and a description, then click Continue.

The folder editor

To open an existing folder in the editor, go to My items: in the Folders tab, click Edit on its row. The name is at the top of the editor, and you can change it in place. Next to it:

  • Download: everything in the folder, in one zip file.
  • Publish to your page: shows the folder to students on your page.
  • Save, and Save and finish, which marks the folder finished and takes you to My items (or to the folder above).

Below is the In the folder list. Each item has tools: move up and down, a pin, Edit, View and Remove from the folder. Videos and audio files play right in the list. The folder's settings are at the side: language, subjects, tags and Who sees it.

The folder Fractions - grade 5 in the editor: the buttons Download, Publish to your page, Save and Save and finish, the In the folder list with a poster, a video and a recording, and the settings at the side.
The folder editor: the name and actions at the top, the items in the folder with their tools, and the settings at the side.

Adding new items

Click Add and choose:

  • A new document or link: opens the document editor.
  • Upload files: opens the upload page.
  • A new exam: opens the Exam studio (in accounts that allow exams).
  • A folder inside it: a new folder inside this one.
  • From My storage: items you already have (see the next section).

A new document, exam or folder made this way is saved in the folder, and after saving you come back to it.

The Add menu with five options: A new document or link, Upload files, A new exam, A folder inside it, and existing items from storage.
The Add menu: a new document, files, an exam, a folder inside it, or items from My storage.

Adding from My storage

  1. In the Add menu, choose From My storage.
  2. My storage opens, with a bar at the top that shows the folder's name and how many items it has.
  3. Click Add to the folder on an item's card. You can also open other folders to find items.
  4. When you're done, click Back to the folder.

An item that's already in the folder is marked In the folder, and its button is Remove from the folder. Items that belong to someone else have no button.

Order, pins and folders in folders

To change the order, drag an item or click its arrows (the keyboard works too). The order is saved at once.

A pinned item, marked Only in this folder, doesn't show in the main list of My storage, only inside the folder. The pin next to the item switches between the two, and an item created from inside a folder is pinned to it from the start.

A folder inside another folder has a Back to the folder above button. A folder can't go into itself, or into a folder inside it.

Good to know: Remove from the folder doesn't delete the item. It stays in My storage, and a pinned item that leaves its last folder shows in the main list again.
