The exam editor

In the exam editor, in the Exam studio, you build an exam: name it, add questions, put them in order and choose its settings.

Opening the editor

  • A new exam: click Exam studio in the side rail. Inside the studio, New in the top bar opens another new exam.
  • An existing exam: in My storage, choose Edit in the studio in the exam's menu.
  • An exam the AI writes: Creating an exam with AI.

What's on the screen

At the top: the exam's name (click it to change it), how many questions it has, and the Settings, Save and finish and Deliver to the class buttons. At the side: Questions, a list with a card for each question (its number, type and text), and under it about how long the exam takes. In the middle: the exam as a page, in its language and direction, as it will print. Clicking a question on the page opens it in the editor.

Adding and editing questions

  1. Press Add a question under the list. In an empty exam: Write a question.
  2. Pick a type from the Which question shall we add? cards.
  3. Write the question and its answers. The question saves itself as you write, and its card shows in the list.
  4. Press Back to the exam.

To edit a question, click its card in the list. The open question's card says In the editor. At the end of the editor, under Add to the question, you can add a Title, an Intro text, a Hint and a Closing text. What to write in each type: Question types.

Tip: A new question you leave empty isn't kept in the exam when you go back from it.

Ordering and removing questions

Each card in the list has a menu (the three-dot button): Edit, Write it again with AI (for the types the AI writes), Move up, Move down and Remove from the exam. You can also drag a card to a new place. The new order is saved right away.

A question you remove from the exam stays in My storage. Remove all, at the top of the list, takes all the questions out of the exam, after you confirm.

The settings

Settings opens a drawer at the side. With no question open, it holds The exam's settings; with a question open, The question's settings. In the drawer:

  • Details: a name no one else sees, a description that everyone who sees the exam sees, and private notes.
  • Subjects and tags: Language, Subjects and Tags. The language also sets the exam's direction: an English exam is written left to right.
  • Who sees it: Only me or Everyone, and in a school's account also My account's members.
  • More settings: audience, difficulty and duration.

Changes save on their own after a few seconds. If your account requires a subject, tags or a description, the drawer opens before saving and says what's missing.

Views, points and saving

The studio's top bar shows the exam as students will see it: Computer and Phone show the digital exam, and Print shows the printed pages. That's also where you choose how to give it (a digital exam, a printed exam). The pencil button in the same bar brings you back to the editor.

In the top bar, switch between editing and the Computer, Phone and Print views.

By default all questions are worth the same. To give each question its own points, go to Computer, and on the Settings tab set the scoring to Per question and press Set each question's points.

  • Save and finish saves the exam and takes you back to My storage, or to the folder the exam is in.
  • Deliver to the class saves the exam and opens the delivery window. The exam needs a name and at least one question.

Note: When you open an exam that was already given to students, the editor offers Work on a copy. Changes to the exam itself (Edit this exam) change what students see, even while they're taking it.
