Importing exams from Word

Have exams in Word documents? You can turn them into Libtee exams in two ways: mark the questions in the import editor yourself, or send the files to the Libtee team, who turn them into exams and questions.

Where to find import

Import is in My activity (in the user menu), on the Import requests tab: press New import. The Import page offers three ways:

  • An exam from a Word document: upload a document and mark its questions; the exam is built as you go.
  • Send files for import: send files (Word, PDF, presentations, pictures), and the Libtee team turns them into exams and questions in My storage.
  • Upload files as they are: the files go into your storage unchanged (Uploading files).

An exam from a Word document: the document and the details

  1. On the An exam from a Word document page, press Choose a file and pick a Word document (DOCX). Its text shows on the page.
  2. At the side, fill in The exam's details: Exam name (filled in from the file's name), Language, Subjects and Tags. They're saved with the exam and with each of its questions.
  3. Press Continue to the questions.

Marking the questions

  1. Select all the text of one question in the document with the mouse.
  2. In the toolbar above the document, choose its type: Open question, Multiple choice, Completion or True / false.
  3. Inside the question, select each part and choose what it is: Title, Question text, and for an open or multiple choice question also Answer. Each marked part gets a label, and a mark can be removed.
  4. Check and complete the question in the editor at the side (for example, mark the correct answer), and press Save the question.

The first question you save creates the exam, and every question after it goes into the same exam. In the document, a saved question is marked in green, and Edit this question takes you back to it. When you're done, press Save and finish at the top of the page; the exam opens in the studio, in its print view.

After Continue to the questions, the toolbar above the document says what to mark, and the side explains the steps.

Note: Marking works with the mouse only. Save and finish is available once at least one question is saved. To drop a question in the middle of marking it, press Cancel this question.

Sending files for import

  1. On the Send files for import page, drag files to the files area, or press Choose files. Each file uploads right away and shows as a tile with its name and size.
  2. Write A name for the request, for example "Grade 8 math exams, first term".
  3. Press Send for import.

Before sending, you can add files with Add files or remove a file. Each file can be up to 50 MB, of the types listed on the page. After sending, you go to My import requests, which lists each request and its state (In process, Done or Rejected). Opening a request shows what happened to each file, and an imported file links to the item made from it.

Send files for import: add the files, name the request and send it.
